Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety

I’ve got a bad feeling….

If past events trigger depression, then, logically, future-thinking causes anxiety.

“What college will I get into?”

“Will I find my soulmate?”

“What if I’m not good enough?”

The truth is – not all stress is bad. For example, if you didn’t have deadlines to push you, you might not get anything done. That kind of anxiety can actually motivate you.

But when you get so stressed out you can’t function…

“Houston, we have a problem.”

Your thoughts are racing.

Your head is pounding.

Your lungs are gasping for air.

Your body is soaking with sweat.

Your heart is threatening to explode.

Your whole being begins to panic!

Warning: System Overload…Warning: Imminent System Failure…

Warning: Initiate. Immediate. Shut. Down.

Depression

I’m not in the mood…

The thrill is gone. You’ve stopped doing all the things you used to enjoy.

You used to be easy going, but now the simplest little thing sets you off.

You’re trying to go about your life and suddenly, out of nowhere, tears begin to pour – and you don’t even know why.

You start avoiding people – it’s easier just to check out. Stay home.

You’re either singlehandedly supporting Ben & Jerry’s or you forget to eat at all – for days at a time.

Heaviness. Sadness.

Depression is an internal experience often described by these words. If all this is new, maybe recent events in your life have overwhelmed you:

Divorce, the death of a loved one, financial hardship.

You just can’t push through.

If these feelings and symptoms sound familiar, you may be experiencing depression.

Like anxiety, not all sadness is bad. Feelings of sadness are essential to life. But when you can’t seem to move beyond them, it’s time to seek help.

Don’t go it alone!

Whether you battle depression or anxiety or both, research shows that talking about it is the best treatment.
